Gender Balance Policy

Actions to promote equal opportunities for male and female delegates at XTOP 2024

We have put into place a number of actions to promote women in crystallography and ensure, as far as possible, equal opportunity for male and female delegates at XTOP2024 in Carry-le-Rouet.

Together with the International Advisory Committee, we have constructed a program in which:

• Two historical plenary lectures will be given during the conference:
• The invited speaker Dr José Baruchel (emeritus scientist at ESRF – European Synchrotron Radiation Facility) will give a conference concerning the history of the XTOP conference.
• The invited speakers Dr Michèle Sauvage (emeritus scientist at SOLEIL synchrotron) and Dr Cécile Malgrange (emeritus Professor at Sorbonne University) will give a conference in the honor of André Authier.

These three plenary speakers (2 females and 1 male) have already confirmed their participation.

• Gender balance for invited speakers is respected in the initial program (4 females / 5 males), and efforts will be made to maintain this balance during the phase of invitation and acceptance.
• Gender balance for session chairs will be achieved as far as possible.
• The local organization committee will take all measures to reach at least 40% of oral communications given by female scientists as far as possible considering the submitted abstracts.

The local organization committee commits to produce on the XTOP 2024 conference website a page concerning gender balance including:

• The statistics of the delegates, chairmen and chairwomen, invited speakers and oral communication speakers.
• The statements concerning actions to promote gender balance during the XTOP 2024 conference.

Additionally, the registration fees have been genuinely built to promote the participation of young scientists, which is expected to mechanically increase the ratio of female/male participants. We also expect that the sponsorship of IUCr targeted to the funding of young scientist would also participate to this general frame.

We will promote the IUCr gender policy statement during the conference and on our website.
