IUCr Young and Early Career Scientists Awards

We had the pleasure to announce that the International Union for Crystallography (IUCr) provided a grant for Young and Early Career Scientist Awards at the next XTOP2024 conference.

Early-career scientists are graduate students, post-graduate students or post-doctoral fellows within five (5) years of receiving a graduate degree. Academic interruptions, including periods of parental leave, are taken into account.

The selection committee received 14 excellent applications of young researchers and PhD students. The evaluation was based both on the academic records as well as on the quality of the respective presentation at XTOP2024 (no difference was made between oral and poster presentations). After through consideration of the applications, the following awardees (presented in alphabetical order) were selected and the awards were handed over during the closing ceremony of XTOP2024:

Mr. Fabian Gasser, PhD student, Graz University of Technology (Austria): "Intensity Corrections for Grazing Incidence X-ray Diffraction"

Ms. Merve Pinar Kabukcuoglu, postdoctoral research fellow, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (Germany): "Correlated 2D and 3D X-ray Diffraction Imaging revealing the Evolution of Dislocations during Thermal Processing of GaAs wafers"

Ms. Maya Wehbe, PhD student, University of Grenoble-Alpes and Commission of Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy (CEA), Grenoble (France): "Combining dark-field X-ray microscopy with scanning X-ray diffraction microscopy to study GaN coalescence"

Mr. Jiangtao Zhao, postodoctoral research fellow, European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF), Grenoble (France): "Bragg coherent modulation imaging"
